DOCTORED EVIDENCE
From Publishers Weekly
"Occasionally, the solution to a good mystery such as this one will actually make the whole story more interesting. In Biehl's first novel, this is true in a number of ways, for not only do the killer's identity and motive come as appropriate surprises, but these revelations heighten the reality and deepen the humanity of the book....A lawyer familiar with hospitals and the kind of fraud that costs the taxpayer $100 billion annually, the author knows how to use his insider's knowledge to tell an engrossing, nicely paced tale, with credible and engaging characters. This harrowing expose of medical fraud will chill as well as infuriate."

From The Mystery Review
"Biehl's novel is a meritorious mystery of hospital politics, human frailities, and fraudulent practices. It's told with an occasional tinge of cynicism and a very large dose of realism emanating from his experiences in law, medicine and music. In Karen Hayes, Biehl has created a larger-than-life heroine deserving of several sequels."

From Mystery News
"This well-written novel takes the reader into the administration of a hospital....As I read this book, I was impressed by the way the author--himself a lawyer in the medical field--made it both real and interesting. The writing is smooth and concise, and very easy to understand. Karen, a lawyer, and her husband Jake, an itinerant musician, are an odd match--but it works. Karen is tough, honest, believable, and very human--combine this with a very skillfully woven plot and you have a winner. This is very good reading, and just possible enough to be actually frightening!"

From The Drood Review of Mystery
"Biehl does an excellent job building his character and her support: a blues-playing husband, a yuppie sister, and quarreling parents. He is good enough with setting that you can see the sumptous CEO's office, Karen's Victorian home and the cath lab in your mind's eye with no difficulty. But where Biehl really shines is in explaining the ins and outs of the investigation of a medical operation gone wrong: the consultations with experts, the reports from laboratories, the jousting with opposing counsel, the flashes of insight that lead a good lawyer to the answer to the problems her client faces. Even better, Biehl is able to show how a good lawyer faces ethical dilemmas everywhere she turns, and how sometimes the legal thing to do isn't the truly right thing to do.
Doctored Evidence is Biehl's first novel. Here's hoping that his legal practice doesn't keep him from writing more."

LAWYERED TO DEATH
From The Midwest Book Review
"Superbly written by professional attorney Michael Biehl, LAWYERED TO DEATH is a chilling mystery novel of murder, corruption and legal shenanigans....Karen Hayes must fight not only for justice, but to protect her own life and that of her infant son in this gripping and suspenseful tale."
From Deseret News
"Besides writing a good story, the author manages to tap into current problems in our post-Enron society."
From The Tampa Tribune
"The title alone should have this novel flying off the shelves....Karen's sleuthing...results in a hair-raising scene in which she must fight for her life and that of her infant son."
From The Independent
"This is an ideal book for those cold winter nights coming up...plenty entertaining for a cozy-up read through....Perhaps this book ought to go on the reading list of ethics courses in the graduate and professional schools."
